Gareth is a partner in the Cambridge office of Marks & Clerk, and has over twenty years of experience in IP. His technical background is in human molecular biology and genetics, having obtained a doctorate which was funded as part of the Human Genome Project.
More recent areas of expertise include work on CRISPR, RNAi, and genetically modified organisms, as well as diagnostics and screening methods. Other clients pursue inventions relating to therapeutic antibodies and proteins, stem cells, pharmaceutical formulations, and research tools.
As well as filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide, Gareth has extensive experience of attending hearings at the European Patent Office. His practice also involves advising on patent term extension, infringement matters and general intellectual property strategy.
He provides freedom to operate and other due diligence reports on complex IP portfolios for clients considering investing in or acquiring IP assets.
Gareth particularly enjoys complex legal questions, and is also Head of Legal Practice at Marks & Clerk LLP. He is also a director of PAMIA Limited, a mutual providing professional indemnity insurance to the IP profession.
