Erik is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and EUIPO Professional Representative involved in the registration, protection, enforcement and management of UK, EU and International Trade Marks. Erik advises clients from various industries and geographies, ranging from start-ups to multinational companies.

Erik has been working full-time in the field of IP since 2016 became fully qualified as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney in November 2020. In December 2020, Erik relocated to Luxembourg and continues to act as a Professional Representative before the EU Intellectual Property Office.

As an overseas member of the Scottish Trade Marks team, Erik provides advice to a variety of clients representing the varied commercial landscape in Scotland. In particular, Erik works on a daily basis with clients in the Food and Beverage, Fashion and Retail, Software and Creative Industries, Financial Services, Automotive, and Oil and Gas industries. Erik has helped edit several IP publications, including the CITMA & CIPA European Union Trade Mark Handbook. As part of the Creative Industries team, Erik takes a particular interest in the fields of AR/VR and Computer Games. Erik’s experiences in these fields range from providing initial IP audits for budding developers, to advising industry veterans on complex international filing strategies and navigating various contentious matters in setting up a new studio and in preparation of launching a AAA gaming title. Erik’s most recent experiences include advising clients on NFTs and the use and enforcement of IP in the Metaverse.

Erik has also been part of the Japanese territory group since 2020 and regularly provides both UK and EU IP advice to Japanese clients in relation to brand clearance and trade mark enforcement.

Whereas Erik’s primary focus is with contentious and non-contentious Trade Mark matters, Erik also handles UK and EU Designs. Erik has an active role in promoting developments in trade mark law and practice as member of the the Marks & Clerk Anti-Counterfeiting and the Law and Practice groups.

Prior to joining Marks & Clerk in 2016, Erik studied History and Politics at the University of Glasgow and obtained an LLM in International Law from the University of Edinburgh. Erik has completed the PGCert in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary, University of London and the PGCert in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University. 

Erik can speak Estonian, English, and Russian fluently. Erik speaks conversational level German and is actively learning French.
