Samuel qualified as a Singapore Registered Patent Attorney in 2019 and is currently working towards qualifying as a UK Patent Attorney. He specialises in patent matters in the technical field of electronics, in particular, spin electronics and microelectronics devices. Samuel also has experience in other technical fields including financial technology and software.

Samuel graduated from the University of Cambridge with a PhD in Physics, specialising in spin electronics with a particular focus on the manipulation of magnetic properties of (Ga,Mn)As by electrical means. Following his graduation, Samuel spent a couple of years as a research fellow first at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan and subsequently at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

Prior to joining Marks & Clerk in March 2017, Samuel worked at another intellectual property firm in Singapore where he prosecuted patent applications for a range of clients including research institutions and multinational corporations. Samuel completed the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law (GCIP) in 2017, which is jointly conducted by the IP Academy of Singapore and the National University of Singapore, obtaining a distinction.
