Jiwon joined Marks & Clerk in 2021 as a trainee patent attorney. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2017 with a first class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences with a specialisation in Pharmacology. She then completed her PhD in Precision Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where her research focused on investigating the role of tumour suppressor pathways in cell response to mechanical stress.

During her PhD, Jiwon also worked as an Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Intern at Edinburgh Innovations, where she was involved in the assessment and commercialisation of inventions arising from academic research.
