Mairi joined the patent profession in 2011 after working in the fields of synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. During her first degree, Mairi spent a year working as a medicinal chemist as part of the neurology and gastrointestinal team in a large international pharmaceutical company. She also has experience working as a synthetic chemist for a contract research organisation.
Mairi handles a diverse range of chemical subject matter including medicinal chemistry, formulation chemistry, polymers and sustainable chemistry. She specialises in small molecule pharmaceuticals and has particular experience in controlled release drug delivery and the therapeutic areas of reproductive health, oncology and infectious diseases.
In her day-to-day work, Mairi assists a wide range of clients, including many UK universities, large multinational companies and start-ups. She is experienced in managing large international patent portfolios and works closely with her clients to develop their IP strategy to assist them in attracting investment. In recent years, she has been entrusted with several due diligence and freedom to operate projects for a large pharmaceutical company, delivering clear and commercially-focussed advice within tight timescales.
Mairi became a Partner of Marks & Clerk in 2022 and was named as a “Rising Star” in the 2022 Managing IP rankings.
