Sophie is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney who joined Marks & Clerk LLP’s biotechnology team in 2011. Sophie has significant experience in the health sector, with particular focus on immuno-oncology (including peptide vaccines and oncolytic viruses) and cannabinoids. Her experience also includes a variety of therapeutics, diagnostics, combination therapies, enzymes and food technology, gene-based inventions and medical devices.
Sophie manages international patent portfolios, with experience in Europe, the UK, the US, China and Japan, amongst others. She has a wide range of experience, covering drafting and prosecution of patent applications, freedom-to-operate searches, novelty searches, infringement opinions, oppositions and appeals. In particular, Sophie has experience in handling patent applications from the drafting stage all the way through to grant and successful defence in opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office.
Sophie has experience in providing advice to a wide variety of clients, from SMEs and university tech transfer offices and spin outs, through to large multinational companies, and she has long-standing relationships with many of these clients.
Sophie joined, and completed her training with, Marks & Clerk LLP after graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Biological Natural Sciences. She is bilingual in French, and has a basic knowledge of Spanish.
