Philip is a Chartered (UK) patent attorney and European patent attorney in the London chemical team. Philip’s experience covers a wide variety of fields, including pharmaceutical products, medical products and devices, polymers, composites, chemical processes and food ingredients. He has considerable experience in the filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide, particularly in Europe and the UK, and has experience in attacking patents, both through Opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office and the filing of third party observations worldwide. Philip has additionally worked on a number of freedom-to-operate projects and opinions.
Before joining Marks and Clerk, Philip completed a DPhil in organic chemistry at the University of Oxford. His research focused on synthesising organic dyes with excellent non-linear optical properties. In addition, he evaluated the toxicity of these dyes in an in vitro cell environment and investigated their applicability to photodynamic cancer therapy and the light-activated release of neurotransmitters.
