Edward specialises in patents and registered designs and has dealt with a broad range of subject matter including mechanical engineering, manufacturing processes, medical devices, wearable devices, and semiconductor systems. He also has experience in other technical fields including IT, FinTech, and software applications. Edward has extensive local and foreign prosecution experience and works together with foreign firms to assist clients in obtaining multi-jurisdictional protection. His practice includes drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications, as well as advising on infringement and patentability issues.
Edward graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in product design. His final year project involved developing an adjustable EEG headband using rapid prototyping. He also holds a Master’s degree in IP Management from NUS. Prior to joining the patent profession, Edward worked as a design engineer on military projects, one of which was a mobile medical vehicle, which became subject to a patent infringement suit. He was since exposed to the IP industry and worked at a boutique IP firm for a few years before joining Marks & Clerk.
Edward qualified as a Singapore Registered Patent Attorney in 2015 and as a Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney in 2021. He was awarded the Chris Gibson prize for achieving the highest mark in passing one of the UK patent attorney qualification exams.
Edward was named an “IP Rising Star” in 2020 and 2021 by Managing Intellectual Property.
