Donald advises a variety of clients, including universities and multinational companies. He has experience of a wide range of subject-matter in the fields of chemistry and the life sciences, including pharmaceuticals, catalysis, oligonucleotide sequencing and medical implants. His current practice focuses on all aspects of organic and organometallic chemistry.

In addition to patent drafting and prosecution, Donald conducts opposition and appeal procedures before the European Patent Office. He is also experienced in producing infringement and validity opinions and performing IP due diligence.
  
Donald was born and educated in Edinburgh.  He received a first class honours degree in Chemistry and doctorate in bioorganic chemistry, both from the University of St Andrews.  Donald entered the patent profession immediately after leaving university and trained in private practice in London before joining Marks & Clerk in 2007.
