Esther holds an M.Eng in Electronic Engineering, based on her studies in the UK and Germany, including at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt. She was also awarded an Engineering Prize from the Royal Academy of Engineering, and presented the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Lecture "The Digital World" to live audiences reaching 20, 000 across the UK, Europe and North America. She was subsequently awarded a PhD in Microelectronics from the University of Cambridge, UK, based on her development of a single-electron memory device operable at room temperature.

Following academia, Esther gained hands-on experience of industrial R&D in Nortel Networks, before moving into an engineering role at a Cambridge-based technology consultancy.

In 2004, Esther entered the patent profession, initially joining a Tier 1 private practice IP firm in Munich before moving to Marks & Clerk’s Cambridge office in 2008. In 2011, Esther also gained valuable experience of IP generation and exploitation through a secondment as an in-house attorney for a global engineering company.

Esther has thus gained extensive experience of managing international patent portfolios, most notably in the fields of Semiconductor Devices and Telecommunications. In particular, she is experienced in coordinating patent and design registrations globally according to commercial strategies, as well as directly representing clients at the EPO in examination, opposition and appeal proceedings (both defending and opposing).
