Justin Smith is a lawyer and registered Canadian Patent Agent in the Ottawa office of Marks & Clerk Canada. Justin’s practice focuses on patent prosecution and covers a range of technologies including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology, medical devices and consumer products.
Justin also provides strategic advice to clients in the life sciences sector in navigating Canada’s regulatory landscape governing patented and innovative drugs. His practice includes advising on data protection, patent term extensions under the Certificates of Supplementary Protection Regulations, and patented medicines pricing under the jurisdiction of the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board.
Prior to joining Marks & Clerk, Justin practiced patent litigation at an international law firm, with an emphasis on litigation under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. His dual experience in patent prosecution and litigation allows him to recognize and avoid potential legal issues during procurement of patent rights before they can manifest into costly litigation.
