Andrew specialises in the field of engineering, with extensive experience in technologies relating to the oil and gas industry, advising a myriad of clients across multiple jurisdictions on all aspects of IP, from protection through to enforcement and strategic management of third party IP risks. In view of Andrew’s significant experience in the oil and gas sector he has led the opening and development of the Aberdeen office of Marks & Clerk.
In addition to his expertise in oil and gas technologies, Andrew has vast experience in many other engineering disciplines, including renewables, medical devices, gas turbine systems and the aerospace industry. He regularly represents clients before the Opposition Division and Appeal Boards of the European Patent Office, and also has significant experience in multi-jurisdictional due diligence, including validity and freedom to operate investigations.
Andrew was born and educated in Scotland, obtaining a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
Andrew has been recognised as a leading patent practitioner in a number of publications, with particular recognition for his experience in the oil and gas sector. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, he was listed as an ‘IP Star’ by Managing Intellectual Property, and described as “capable and represents his clients well”. He is also recommended in the IAM Patent1000 guide and hailed as “an oil and gas specialist”. Andrew is also mentioned in the 2015 and 2016 editions of Legal 500.
