Image Tagging Image:AdamSmith.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:AdamSmith.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - Ahsoous 23:58, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

File tagging File:Palestra at Olympia.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Palestra at Olympia.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Palestra at Olympia.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
This image attributed to <removed> requires a confirmation from him or her via email to the OTRS team on Commons. Jappalang (talk) 18:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Valga_maakond.svg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Valga_maakond.svg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

[edit]Now that the sidebar link points to Commons:Upload/et, I think we'd also need translations of MediaWiki:Uploadtext, MediaWiki:Uploadtext/ownwork, MediaWiki:Uploadtext/fromflickr, MediaWiki:Uploadtext/fromgov, and of MediaWiki:Uploadtext/fromwikimedia... also, a translation of MediaWiki:UploadFormQuickHelp would be very useful. And note that Commons:Upload has a few hints at the bottom that are missing on Commons:Upload/et ("For experienced users"...) If you have the time, could you maybe provide these translations? For the "Uploadtext" files, just place them on the talk pages (e.g. at MediaWiki talk:Uploadtext/et or MediaWiki talk:Uploadtext/etownwork and so on) and mark them with {{Editprotected}}. Hello,
my wife would want to use it for a not-for sale history book about Open Estonia Foudnation and Estonia and this Tartu pic is important as Soros first visited Estonia in 1989 landing at the Tartu military airport and in the book professor Marju Lauristin talks about what the mood in Tartu was like at the time. So that is just perfect illustration. It's too late in the process to make the book CC-SA, so we're requesting either that you don't require SA, or they are willing to license the picture from you on the side. Best regards CarlJohanSveningsson (talk)
PS. I currently have some 500 pics related to Estonia on flickr, you should absolutely free to put them to commons on my behalf whenever you'd like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cjsveningsson/tags/estonia ... or how was it, wikimedia can't use CC-NC? I would change that case by case upon any request from wikimedia users. CarlJohanSveningsson (talk)
- Hi,
- I'dont wan't to change the SA clause, but you can contact me about licensing this photo for this specific usage via my e-mail. (sent you my e-mail address via Commons e-mail function)
- About your pictures: Yes, wikimedia projects can't use CC-NC pictures. To make your pictures available for Wikimedia, you should change their license in Flickr to CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. Estonian Wikipedia could certainly make use of your pics made at the Tallinn Demo Center. --WikedKentaur (talk) 11:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:01, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

90.190.114.172 16:21, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- Need uuemate teoste pildid tuleb pärast (septembri lõpus) eesti Vikipeediasse teisaldada. --WikedKentaur (talk) 18:49, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Panoraamivabaduse puudumise tõttu Commonsisse sobimatud pildid tuleks märgistada malliga Template:Move to et.wiki, et nad seejärel botiga eesti vikisse kopeerida. --WikedKentaur (talk) 06:37, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
Cultural heritage monuments
[edit]Please reconsider the change on the template. As you can see here, it requires the creation of thousands of categories. Moreover, categories with backslashes in the name are not appreciated by the commons tools (create problems, considered as subpages). For uploaders, red categories are no very motivating neither. --Foroa (talk) 06:54, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- These categories are used in monuments lists in Estonian Wikipedia, like http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipeedia:Vikiprojekt_Kultuurip%C3%A4rand/Aegviidu_valla_kultuurim%C3%A4lestised. These categories are temporary, there will be a tool at toolserver to display all images with certain monument ID. After that this redlink category system can be dropped. --WikedKentaur (talk) 17:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Estonia by ID/21007 Problem ? --Foroa (talk) 07:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- It's a temporary category and should be a red-link category. --WikedKentaur (talk) 17:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Kas vaikimisi lisatud kategooria Cultural heritage monuments in Estonia peaks jääma või tuleks see millegagi asendada? Põhimõtteliselt lisab mall ka selle (alam)kategooria. Näen, et näiteks see alamkategooria on kustutamiseks esitatud. Samas on sinna üksikute mälestiste kategooriaid hakatud lisama. 193.40.10.180 14:37, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- Vajadusel võib valla kaupa mälestiste kategooriad teha. 'Cultural heritage monuments in Valjala vald' nimi peaks olema 'Cultural heritage monuments in Valjala Parish'. Mingi hetk peaks tööle saadama bot, mis üksnes kategoorias 'Cultural heritage monuments in Estonia' olevatele piltidele lisab mälestise numbri järgi vastava mälestise loendi näit. http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipeedia:Vikiprojekt_Kultuurip%C3%A4rand/Valjala_valla_kultuurim%C3%A4lestised commonskat kategooria või commonskat loendi eesti viki kategooriast http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategooria:Valjala_vald. Valjala mälestisele peaks see bot siis lisama kategooria 'Valjala Parish'. --WikedKentaur (talk) 06:47, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Jurisdiktsiooniga sidumata ja seotud litsents
[edit]Tere!
90.190.114.172 14:19, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.Dear Wkentaur, Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place. You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet). [edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Wkentaur⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,

Näiteks asendusväärne illustratsioon sellest kujust on juba eesti vikis. File:Ukinrek Maars, Alaska.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Copyright status: File:Lutsu tänav, viljandi.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Lutsu tänav, viljandi.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Demokeskuse ettevõtted, 2009.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Demokeskuse ettevõtted, 2009.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:EEK 50senti 2004.jpg.
(See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!
[edit]Hi
You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.
You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.
Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
RevDev - user talk page history
[edit]Hi Wiked,
Sorry to revision delete a significant part of your talk page. Non-public identifying/personal information was added in a deletion request to your talk page back in 2009 and as you do not archive, the information still existed on your page today. This information was requested today to be removed from anywhere it existed on the wiki which excluding your page, was only files. One of the limitations of revision deletion is that if the edit to be revdel'd was not reverted in the edit immediately following it, all edits between it and its revert will contain the content of the edit. In this case, all of the intermediate edits must be deleted to fully hide the edit's contents. Again, my apologies. I recommend archiving old posts. ~riley (talk) 06:35, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

File type and duplicate
[edit]Hi. With {{Duplicate}} these should not be done where the file type is different. I suggest you use {{Other version}} to label. We can do a use replacement in cases where there is a better quality of the file, but wish to retain the respective images. — billinghurst sDrewth 20:14, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Tartu temporary closed places in 2020 March.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Tartu temporary closed places in 2020 March.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".
Thank you! |

File tagging File:Laulupidu 2014 (14401287610).jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Laulupidu 2014 (14401287610).jpg.
Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Laulupidu 2014 (14401287610).jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
