Rename mis-spelt image filename
[edit]Hi Dbenbenn, could you help me to rename a mis-spelt filename? Image:Moses around Stalactite with Waterdrop.jpg should read Image:Mosses around Stalactite with Waterdrop.jpg (double S instead of single S for "mosses"). Do I need to re-upload it to the new name and then you delete the file with the old name, or if you can simply rename it to the new name? (so far, only en:stalactite and zh:鐘乳石 uses this image). Thanks for your help.--Wing-Chi 08:39, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Yep, the only way is to re-upload the image with the new name. I'll delete the old one when you've done that. User:dbenbenn 15:11, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
Featured Picture
[edit]Hi Wingchi. An image you took, Image:WhereRainbowRises.jpg, has just become a Featured Picture on Wikipedia! Congratulations, and thanks for taking it. Raven4x4x 06:37, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
How did you take the picture of Where the Rainbow Rises
[edit]Usually, it is hard to take a picture of the end of the rainbow! But it looks like you did it. How did you get such a good, especially closeup, picture of the end of a rainbow?
Circular snowmelt patterns
[edit]I'm intrigued by the image you uploaded showing circular holes in the snow. Could you direct me to any references on the process, please? Based solely on the image, I can think of a couple of competing explanations, so I'd like to understand it more. Cheers, Daniel Collins 14:30, 10 April 2006 (UTC).
- While I am not a geologist, I don't have any reference on the process. I think it is those vegetation that gives off heat and speeds up snowmelt around them in the first place. Then as the earth is uncovered, it absorbs more heat than the surrounding snow (which reflects sunlight more than absorbs heat), and causes the circles to grow. I'd like know your other possible explanations too. Thanks.--Wing-Chi 18:04, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Albatross pix
[edit]Re Image:070226 Shy mollymawk off Kaikoura 2.jpg and Image:070226 Campbell mollymawk off Kaikoura 1.jpg which you put into Category:Aves - my understanding is that the practice here is that categories like that should go on the index page under the binomial rather than on the image page itself, so I reverted this, since the index pages had more specific taxonomic categories already. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Science program clearing use of I_Surrender_All_-_Said_the_Gull.jpg
[edit]Greetings! I'm writing on behalf of a science program at PBS/WGBH. We are interested in using one of your images, File:I Surrender All - Said the Gull.jpg, as part of a program on the intelligence of animals. We are hoping to clear more rights than what is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License, but are very willing to negotiate. If you are at all interested, contact me through my talk page and I am happy to provide further information. Thank you so much for your time! --Adam.talaid (talk) 16:32, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Pinnacles National Monument has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Image: God_is_Love for my homepage?
[edit]Hi Wingchi, I wanted to use your picture God_is_Love (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AGod_is_Love.JPG) as a background image for my homepage. I wanted to ask you, if I can use it(?). The homepage is about my music (and later about my books and my system, too). Later I will arrange a onlineshop for my CD, but I wouldn't use your picture for profit purpose. I would refer to you (and commons.wikimedia.org) in terms of copyright and license. (FAQ points out, that I should verify). Do you want my homepage-address to control it, if you allow me to use it? I really fancy this picture. Thanks in advance.
Kind regards JoshTCute

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Wingchi⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Using One of Your Images in an Extension Publication
[edit]Hi Wing Chi,
I am a PhD student at Oregon State University and I'm currently working on an extension publication on blooming shrubs and trees of Oregon that are useful to native bees. I was wondering if I would be able to use a few of your images in the extension publication? The images I'm looking at appear to be licensed under a Creative Commons license, but I wanted to get permission from you! I would of course include you as the owner of the image and a link to the images on Wikimedia. I would not be able to pay you for the images and will not profit from the publication or from the inclusion of your images in the publication. The publication would be open to the public and free for people to use.
The image that I am interested in using is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Salal_(Gaultheria_shallon)_Leaf_and_Flowers.jpg
If you would be open to me using this image and you can email me at scott.mitchell@oregonstate.edu, I'd really appreciate it! If not, I totally understand.
Best,
