Copyright Violations

Hi I am Nima Farid the creator of Tehran expressways map and Seals of Abadeh. I wrote the sources of those maps and I'll write it for you to know: As I said in the summery of the maps I downloaded the File:TehranBlank.PNG but this photo was deleted by User:Otourly. Then I showed the Expressway on the map of Tehran and I uploaded it and I mentioned the source. For seals of Abadeh: This file:File:Abadeh seal.jpg: I took the picture by my own mobile phone Nokia 3500c and if you don't believe it I can send you my mobile phone's picture to you. And File:Seal of Abadeh.png I draw this picture by Paint by putting the last photo in front of myself. So I demand you to delete the deleting Template but you can delete other Shahrdari Signs. About the maps:

• Your maps are considered a derivative work from a copyrighted map. As you should noticed, the File:TehranBlank.PNG had been created from maps of http://www.tehrangis.com which are all copyrighted (Copyright © 2007 TehranGIS . All rights reserved.)

And About your municipality logos.

• These logos are also derivative works which inherit the same copyright as their source. All works of Iranian Government are copyrighted and so you should not use them. Redrawing logos won't solve the problem as they inherit the copyright of original source which is not free.

Hello

Hey, These photos were obtained from VOA, is it violating any laws if we upload pictures obtained from that film? These paintings were shown in that film as put at the corner of his workshop. The VOA was not the copyright holder. The original author (painter) is still alive so the copyright belongs to him. There's no way to use copyrighted materials on commons. -- Meisam (talk) 18:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

حذف پرونده‌ها در ویکی انبار

درود. من تعدادی از تصاویر کار خودم را در ویکی آپلود کردم که قبلا در سایت پانورامیو (گالری دوم)آپلود کردم و بعضا به صفحه اون عکس در پانورامیو لینک دادم . بعضی از عکسها به عنوان اثر شخصی در ویکی آپلود کردم و بعضی با مجوز کریتیو کامانر و لینک به عکس. در صفحه گالری در سابت پانورامیو هم مجوز لازم گذاشتم. مدتی قبل با وجود این که با ایمیلی که در گالری پانورامیو به عنوان ایمیل صاحب اثر گذاشتم به ویکی ایمیل زدم که نشون بده صاحب اثر هستم ولی باز هم عکس که نگاره برگزیده هم بود حذف شد. امروز هم چند مورد دیگه از عکسهای شخصی فاقد مجوز مناسب معرفی شده که یکی از آنها نگاره برگزیده است. لطفا برای حل این مشکل راهنمایی کنید.

سلام. مجوزی که در سایت پانورامیو دیده‌می‌شود، اجازه‌ی استفاده‌ی تجاری و یا تغییر عکس را نمی‌دهد. در مورد ایمیل هم، برایتان ایمیلی فرستاده‌اند که این مجوزها با ویکی‌مدیا کامانز سازگار نیست. Hi. It was deleted based on a "some smaller version could be found elsewhere". I undeleted it based on a user's request as I saw all the uploader's files are taken by the same camera and looked reasonable enough to be self-made. Sajed.ir

Salaam Alaykom. I'm trying to get in touch with Sajed.ir so that they can fix the alleged problems and we can use the pics in commons. Although most of the pics are now useable here, I'm trying to make it completely useable! I followed the pages discussing the problems of this website and found some points which should be fixed. For example, some of their pics were borrowed from other sources! and some of them were TV screen shot. The major problem, as was mentioned in those various long discussions, were not mentioning the authors and/or creators. So my questions are as such:

• How can Sajed.ir fix this problem considering the fact that some of the photographers are really unknown and the pics date back to almost 30 years ago?
• Does the fact that Sajed.ir is a subsection of governmental organizations changes its copy right rules? How?

Hi! I tried to contact them on 08-13-2014 by email and their own contact form but they did not answer.

• If photographer is unknown, there must be a proof of publication in 30 years ago. According to Iranian copyright laws, just being taken 30 years ago will not grant us the right to use it.
• It won't matter. Because, unlike United States, we do not have a different copyright law for governmental offices.
• The version of GFDL must be included in the license, for example GFDL 1.2 or GFDL 1.3. Because they have substantial differences which are really important.

With this file you uploaded, I figured out which lock that lock is: it is Lock 18 in Great Falls. Compare that photo with modern photos, and it's lock 18.

I put a little thing on the category so the sort order it comes out with other pictures of Lock 18, but it may be good to rename the file so that 18 appears in the file name.

عکاسی در آتلیه‌ها

سلام. نظرتان راجع به حق نشر عکس‌هایی که در آتلیه‌ها در ایران گرفته می‌شود، چیست؟ حقوق متعلق به عکاس است یا سفارش‌دهنده؟

نظر خانم سوره صادقی آن است که متعلق به سفارش‌دهنده است.

سوم- عکاسی سفارشی از جمله در آتلیه‌های عکاسی یا توسط عکاس‌های آتلیه‌ها در مراسم‌ها و… در این مورد طبق قانون فعلی ایران (۱۳۴۸)، سفارش دهنده (=مشتری) دارنده کپی‌رایت به حساب می‌آید. 4nn1l2 (talk) 16:06, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

@4nn1l2: سلام بر امیر، از آنجایی که قانون حق تکثیر در ایران در مورد چنین مواردی (همچون بسیاری از موارد دیگر) سکوت کرده، می‌شود آن را مصداقی از سفارش (مشمول ماده ۱۳ قانون) به‌شمار آورد. اما به نظرم این ادعا که:

1. سفارشی در میان بوده و
2. بر طبق قرارداد آن سفارش این اثر ایجادشده و
3. بر طبق همان قرارداد، تمام حقوق مادی اثر به سفارش‌دهنده منتقل‌شده

Categories

Hi Meisam, please give useful categories to the images you upload. Keep in mind that Commons has a project scope and uploaded images "must be realistically useful for an educational purpose". For instance in

• File:Adenium. (Desert rose). (22348219908).jpg your Category:Flowers is hardly useful. Note its header: "This is a main category requiring frequent diffusion and maybe maintenance. As many pictures and media files as possible should be moved into appropriate subcategories.".
• File:Aeonium (8065565374).jpg your Category:Flowers is simply wrong. There istn't any flower visible.

Squirrel files

I wanted to get your input on requesting renaming of those files you uploaded that have odd names. It looks like the person on Flickr actually gave the squirrels human names but those don't really translate well to file names and having something like File:'Belinda' (15262390078).webm or File:'Samantha' Drops in for Breakfast (11025374995).jpg be about squirrels seems a little confusing to me. @Majora: I see your point. I always try to respect the photographers’ preferred names as a symbol of appreciation for their works. But in this case, adding a descriptive tag to the start of the names (i.e. File:Squirrel - 'Belinda' (15262390078).webm or something similar) may not be a bad idea.

Or adding "(squirrel)" to the names may be another option! It looks like most of the times the animal names have single quotations around them and the zookeepers are named without quotation marks (e.g. File:'Anthony' and Katie (7888228344).jpg). Anything more identifiable than human names would probably be ok. I just don't see anyone being able to find those images unless they were looking through the category first. @Majora: If anyone use the search function, it will include the filename, file description, and its categories. IMO anything general about what is being displayed should be a category and unique features should be in the description of the image. I think we need more specific categories for these animals. Categories for aircraft files

Good afternoon Meisam. Recently, somebody asked you to "Hi Meisam, please give useful categories to the images you upload." Maybe you have not worked very much with aircraft files before.

In this edit you only added the "Category:2015 at London Oxford Airport", which is correct, of course.

However, the single most import category for an aircraft is "type", because it is the only one which is never going to change in the life of an aircraft (and therefore a kind of "grand parent" cat). Everything else may change during all the years in which pictures of this aircraft are taken: the registration, the operator/airline, the colour, and of course the locations and years referring to the individual file (picture).

Therefore, I kindly ask you to never the ""XXX Airport by year"-category only. Please always add the "Aircraft at XXX Airport" cat, and - just if you happen to know it - instead the sub-cat "Aircraft at London Oxford Airport by aircraft type" together with the correct type of aircraft. In this example the file finally ends up in Category:Bombardier Challenger 604 at London Oxford Airport. You don't have to create a new category if it's not yet there - in this case you can as well just use the "Aircraft at XXX Airport" cat.

Please do not consider my comment as criticism; it is just something very high on the wish-list of the "Aviation People" to have the most characteristic item of a file in place. Thank you for your quick answer! This "bare minimum" list has been disputed often before; unfortunately, in its current condition it only represents the private, un-coordinated opinion of a globally blocked user.

When adding and correcting cats they don't have to be uploaded by yourself. It is a work very much appreciated, especially because exactly this user has uploaded tens of thousands of files (under hundreds of sockpuppet names) without any category!

My point is simply to add the "Aircraft at XXX Airport" cat or (only if convenient) any more precise "Type of aircraft ..." cat, because editors writing an article are usually trying to find suitable pictures in the "Type" or "Airline" cats, but certainly not in "1999 at Grassfield Aerodrome".

By the way, I just saw you are from (living in?) Azerbaijan. I remember Baku and the adjoining Caucasus region as very interesting and impressive regions; I had really enjoyed several short journey them. --Uli Elch (talk) 14:51, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

@Uli Elch: I fully agree with your point and will try to add the "Aircraft at XXX Airport" categories to the files I come across.

When I first started categorizing the aviation files, I searched for the naming/categorizing guidelines but I couldn’t find anything in Commons:WikiProject Aviation. I’m still not completely sure about the structure of the category tree for the aircrafts [3] Also, there are still open discussions like this. I think having a guideline for categorization can hugely benefit the project and also help the new users who want to contribute. Let me know if I can help in anyway. Thanks for your patience in explaining the stuff to the other users. I know it can be frustrating sometimes.

Thanks once again. Your idea in the "AX-2343"-question seems to be very reasonable to me, too. However, I think the sections "Police aircraft of XXX" and "Air ambulances of XXX by registration" should be included in the "Normal" reg-list as long as they do not carry registrations out of the normal civilian sequence (like this one).

Categorization

We just lost the only image of Turkish composer Murat Ses. I do not know if I could do anything to prevent it, but did not see the DR on time. As you may know, he was the founder and a member of the group Ağrı Dağı Efsanesi. Now we are left only with an old vinyl of the music of this composer and his group. As Category:Murat Ses is empty, I will add the group under his cat. If we do it the other way, than we will not have a trace of Murat Ses who has articles in a couple of Wikipedias, while the group -I am astonished why- has none. @E4024: To keep the Wikimedia Commons free and accessible for everybody, the copyright issues must be taken very seriously. As he is alive and still active, it is possible to find free photos of Murat Ses. The categories can be sorted out later when we find more related images. IMO, unfortunately, the reputation of the Ağrı Dağı Efsanesi band has been overshadowed by the song of the same name and also due to its short life (1972-76).

For a while I was creating Wikidata items for the relatively less widely known Turkish bands/musicians. You will find “Ağrı Dağı Efsanesi” and other familiar names in the list of the items I’ve created.

Toolforge problems

Hey Meisam,

I probably wont make it to Wikimuc tonight, but I have tried converting photos on Toolforge in the last week, with varying results. Good news first: Toolforge does have ImageMagick preinstalled with support for jp2. Conversion does work when submitting a 80MB file with 8GB ram, but it wont finish successfully for an 430MB file, even when submitting it to the queue with 20GB ram. I wouldn't dare adding Category:Computer keyboards with QWERTY layout to the said file. Its layout is completely non-standard and it probably passed through many hands before I got it. It's unknown whether this position of Y and Z is its "original" (ie. created by Interdata Sp. z o.o., the company mentioned on a sticker on the keyboard (I never heard of it elsewhere)) or was simply determined by a collector when he was cleaning. (Well, I don't even know what the position was when the thing was delivered to me – I quickly disassembled the 'board to clean it, having forgotten about taking a photo.) Saying it is a "QWERTY" layout does not mean it is the standard layout, which varies depending on type of devices. Keyboard for PC or Mac, or mobiles, or typewriters still vary a lot for some characters (including punctuation), or functions and commands. Posting a warning on the description should be enough, but feel free to categorize other photos of "standard" Polish QWERTY layouts for PC, MAC, or typewriters. Note that in most cases, there's not a single standard, manufaturers make a lot of variations. Ideally there should be subcategories for each kind of device, leaving the general layout diagrams separate as they are not really dependant with exact metrics or positions. Here it is a keyboard that was NOT designed for PC or Mac, but a proprietary terminal (see the many function keys). IF someone finds a true documentation of this terminal keyboard, this could be confirmed but for now this is speculation: we just describe here what is on the photo, even if it's a derivation or inventive creation or incorrect mounting. If the disassembler could test the keyboard and see what characters are displayed on the terminal, he could possibly remount it correctly and fix that photo, if this was such error). verdy_p (talk) 14:59, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

@JuTa: Sorry for the trouble. I was also suspicious at first about the user, but Summers Day 333, Joost J. Bakker and happy days photos and art seem to be the same user or at least they all have access to the same source material! For example, these photos seem to be manually cropped of which the “Summers Day 333” versions have a section which does not exist in the other:

MSBOT

It seems that MSBOT having bug when adding sort key to categories.
When sorting USA aircrafts, only the first "N" should be omitted.
But MSBOT omitted all "N". As a result, the sorting order is wrong.
